Membership of this new branch of the University of the Third Age for retired and semi-retired people continues to grow and we are nearing the 150 members mark.

“John Singer Sargent 1856-1925 A painter of glamorous portraits and atmospheric landscapes”

An art history lecturer on Western European and American Art from early Renaissance to the present day
J.S. Sargent was the most successful portrait painter of his era, as well as a gifted landscape painter and watercolourist. Influenced by Impressionism he painted landscapes, catching the light and atmosphere. He was however most in demand for his glamorous society portraits, both in England and in America. In stark contrast to these images of Edwardian society, and the sunlit landscapes, was his large painting “Gassed” – his response to the Great War in 1918.

OUTINGS
Coach Tour of Romney Marsh Churches Tuesday, 14th April Members are invited to register by 15th March for this Outing which leaves Goudhurst at 9.15 a.m. and returns at approximately 5 p.m. The cost, excluding lunch and refreshments, will depend upon the number taking part but is hoped to be around £25.
The planned visit to The British Library to see the Magna Carta Exhibition will now take place later in the spring.

The U3A exists to make friends, develop interests, learn new skills and have fun. Our motto is Learn, Laugh and Live! New members are always welcome and suggestions are also very welcome.
