Prior to enlisting, Walter was working with his father Stephen a builder’s foreman, on important government contracts.

There are no service records available for Private Springett as they were destroyed when a German bomb hit the London War Records Office in 1940.Information about his military activities have been obtained from the CWGC website entries, War Diaries and from Newspaper cuttings.

Walter, who was wounded in his arm was having it dressed when a shell hit the Dressing Station killing him and 8 other soldiers outright.
